Report

Once again only the bare 11 players for the final game of the season on an extremly hot day, but what a game it was. Wootton never looked outclassed in a game they really should have won. Welland are obviously a very good team with only a stange decision from the league denieing them the opportunity to take the title. The game started at high pace with Wootton matching Welland in all positions. Welland scored first on 30 minutes and were 2 up within minutes of half time. Wootton heads stayed high and pulled 1 back shortly into the 2nd half when Dan harris broke free, but with defenders bearing down on him he took the unselfish option of passing to Patryk, who surprised everyone by sweetly striking the ball into the net from a very tight angle. Not long after Welland regained their 2 goal lead, however Wootton pulled it back to 3-2 when Ginge rose high and headed in a good Dodge corner. Wootton were always in this game, even when Welland went 4-2 up. The luck wasn-t with us today and only the inability to finish half a dozen open goals and a number of fine saves from the Welland keeper prevented Wootton geting a result from this match. MOM today went to Ginge who really stood out at centre back, and is one of the best readers of the game in the league. Its been a very long and hard season and we all know that had we had the players we have now at the start of the season, it may have all been so different. Well done lads, you should all be proud of your performance today.
